Spider Spotting in Louisiana

According to the Associated Press, brown is the new black -- at least when it comes to spiders. Apparently, the brown widow, a lesser-known relative to the black widow, is now in Louisiana. Although they likely arrived from Florida via imported items, they like their news digs and have set up home.

While the spiders are not overly aggressive, don't take chances when walking in undisturbed areas. Keep your arms and legs covered and pay extra attention when making a campfire since wood piles are a favorite hiding spot.

If you do get bitten by Louisiana's newest arachnid, you'll know it. The bites are very painful and will result in muscle cramps, nausea and sweating. While you'll likely recover in a few days, be sure to apply first aid and get immediate medical attention.
